Guanajuato Hotels

Hotels Advice: Tourists seem to want to stay in the center of town. I get the appeal but trust me that here’s what you are going to get if you go the to the trouble of securing a reservation at a hotel in the historic center: An uber-expensive hotel room in which you will not be able to fall asleep until the wee hours of the morning.

Tourists do not know that where they want to stay in El Centro is also the place where the locals sing, dance, party, set off fireworks, scream and holler, until four in the morning. It is noisy and that is a gross understatement. (And, don’t forget the church bells that sound each quarter hour.)

In addition, the sidewalk cafes associated with these hotels off the El Jardin plaza are overly expensive, the food is terrible, and they aren’t always clean.

Do you want to pay $140.00 a night or more for the privilege of staying in the center of town?

Cautions:

One fact of life you can count on in Mexico is that nothing is as it ever seems. Thus said, here are a few warnings about finding hotel accommodations:

Hotels on this page could be here today and gone tomorrow—everything was here when I sent this book to the publisher.

Unless you are very, very good in Spanish when trying to make a reservation you can count on numerous misunderstandings and not getting what you asked for. Spanish is the language of choice in this country and not all hotels will have a soul who speaks a word of English.Don’t count on any place accepting credit cards—ask first!Hotels and Restaurants are notorious for letting their Internet connection and website go by the wayside. Never eat at a street vendor selling food. You’ll end up sicker than a dog.
