Guanajuato, Mexico: Your Expat, Study Abroad, and Vacation Survival Manual in the Land of Frogs...reflects an entirely different Expatriation Philosophy. The vast majority of books written and commercially available on the issue of Americans expatriating to Mexico will sugar-coat everything from how the locals will perceive you, info on cost-of-living, and will try to give you the impression that moving to Mexico is like moving into a Paradise. We endeavor to tell the truth: Mexico is not a paradise it is a country. And, in this country you will find a diversity almost as vast as the U.S. complete with those who love Gringos and those who hate them. You will find things which you like and will adapt to quickly. You will also find things to which you will never be able to accept. That's life here.
My motive for writing this eBOOK is that the info available in commercial form, whether online or in print, pretty much reveal a Concept of Mexico and not the Reality of Mexico. They will make you think you will find no evil in this paradisaical land of milk and honey. They will make you think you can live like King Solomon will all these adoring and worshipful servants who have been waiting all their lives for you to arrive and save them from their horrible third-world existence. I hope what you find in this website is not just refreshing but will drastically alter your idea of what living in Mexico is all about. Doug Bower (author) Product Description Living in the city of Guanajuato is nothing like living the Gringo Landias or Gringo Gulches of San Miguel de Allende or Puerto Vallarta. No information exists in book form to guide the potential expat to a new life in central Mexico. Expatriating to Guanajuato is different and unique. Unlike San Miguel de Allende or Puerto Vallarta, there is not a huge gringo community here that acts as a support buffer for "newbies". Nor is English as widely spoken as it is in other areas where expats live. Doug and Cindi Bower spell out the differences between living in Guanajuato and living in other areas where expats have traditionally congregated. They offer a survival manual for the potential expat. REVIEW Considering a move to Mexico? Here's a must-read., June 12, 2006 R. Freitas "Photographer" - If you're seriously considering a move to Mexico, the author offers the most realistic look at the real Mexico that I've ever found. Having traveled to Gto many times as my family and I prepare for a move there, this book paints a vivid picture of the city's many charms, and also at its few "warts." The author is right on the mark too in his assessment of the wonderful people of his adopted city. My only worry is that the book will spark too much interest in this enchanting city and turn it into the next San Miguel de Allende or Puerto Vallarta, which often seem like American colonies rather than genuine Mexico. All in all, this book is highly recommended if you want the true scoop on everyday life in traditional Mexico.
